"I didn't run away that night. I don't like the dark much. Running away was scary enough without it being dark."
I love that line! Being Bee, by Catherine Bateson, is a Junior Library Guild Premier Selection novel and well worth the read. Bee and her dad have have lived alone since the death of her mother, and Bee is quite happy with things the way they are. But Bee's world turns upside down when her dad begins dating Jazzi. It's bad enough that Bee has to get used to a possible stepmother, but Jazzi has baggage of her own. This is an easy read with a lot of tender moments. It's so sweet when Bee's guinea pigs begin writing notes to her. And Bee turns out to be wise beyond her years, leaving you sure that this is a family that will make it.
talking guinea pigs...? sounds cool! trippy but cool nevertheless. (is that one word? or is it three?)
